Job description – The Bronx Council for Environmental Quality (www.BCEQ.org ) and the Harlem River Working Group (HRWG) are currently looking to hire a Summer Associate through the Conservation Legacy VISTA Program.

There are two projects that the summer associate will be involved in: the annual “Canoeing the Harlem” event, and the new local high school based research project “Characterizing the Harlem” research project.

There is also a very large historic event – the opening of the High Bridge – which the summer associate will have an opportunity to work on. The summer associate should be comfortable giving presentations, networking, and event planning. While experience in the field of biology/ecology is not required, most of the projects are ecology related.

Location – Manhattan College Leo Engineering Building, 275 W. 238th Street, New York, NY, 10463, US.  This job can be performed from a remote location primarily along the Harlem River.

 Start date – June 1, 2015.  The dates of service are June 1st to August 3rd.

Application deadline – April 29, 2015.  The position will be filled by April 30th.

Employment type – Full time

Professional level – Entry level

Salary range (annual, U.S. $) – 6 to 8;  Salary details – Approximate dollars/hour (based on 40 hour work week). Salary is awarded by AmeriCorps VISTA based on living expenses for the area of service. This works out to be ~1,000/month in the NYC area.

Benefits – $1,194.71 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award at the end of service.
